2016 Agricultural Enhancement Grant

Agricultural Enhancement Grant

The BC Hazelnut Growers Association and Holster Farm were recipients of a 2016 Agricultural Enhancement Grant for crop innovation, provided by the Abbotsford Community Foundation and the City of Abbotsford. This year’s grant program was focused on ‘crop innovation’.

The BCHGA and Holster Farms were awarded the $33,620 grant for work into the development of new varieties of hazelnuts which are resistant to eastern filbert blight (EFB). The funds will facilitate establishing a hazelnut orchard that will resist EFB, produce a viable amount of marketable hazelnuts, and help educate the public and future hazelnut growers about the potential for hazelnut farming to once again thrive in BC.
